It’s still true that the best content gets the most links. But there’s a hidden secret to creating the best content: the blog brief!

If you start with a brief based on search queries rather than keywords, your content will naturally gain organic links once your writer has compiled the past. In addition to ranking for your target keyword (like traditional SEO marketing), you pick up additional traffic from SEO synonyms and exact match search queries. The benefit? More views = more links.

You still need to apply the content marketing basics of producing the best version of what is available online. In 2021, Google (and other search engines) are getting closer to rewarding the best content – regardless of how big the site is.

Dominic Kent, Founder,

One of the common challenges for marketers is ranking higher on search result pages for relevant keywords that prospects would most likely be searching through online if interested in purchasing anything from your company’s product range–the higher your site ranks with regards to this aspect means more visibility overall.

So, in order to stand out, you need your website to be found on Google’s search engine results page (SERP). One way that people do this is through link building strategies.

Link Building Strategies:

  1. Guest blogging

When it comes to creating your brand, guest blogging is an invaluable tool. Not only do you get the opportunity to reach a new audience but also share your ideas and opinions with people who are already interested in what you have to say.

  1. Create shareable templates

Content that is bookmarkable often gets tons of inbound links.

  1. Curate and publish resource lists

These can be in the form of links or articles that are informative, entertaining, or inspirational for people who want more information on certain topics.

  1. Broken Link Building

This strategy is all about establishing a relationship with website owners, content writers and bloggers from your niche. You can do this by exchanging links on each other’s websites to help grow both of the sites’ traffic and popularity through mutual promotion.

  1. Attending podcasts

Podcasts are a great way to reach out and share your passions with others. They also give you the opportunity to get interviewed on them, which is an incredible opportunity for backlinks! All popular podcasts have their website where they publish articles or transcripts of each episode of the podcast with guest introductions so that’s how you can make it happen!

So, now you know 5 more B2B link-building strategies that will help your site rank higher.

Industry surveys and original research are gold mines for B2B links. Survey your clients or contacts in the industry on their tips for growing in the industry, common struggles they face, and how they’re approaching the industry in general. Use the data to put together a helpful and well-designed summary. Then, send it out to others in your niche, contacts, industry publications, etc… Share it on LinkedIn and in Facebook groups. Not only will you rack up a bunch of social media shares, but any B2B company who puts out a lot of content needs sources like this for their articles. They want to link to helpful data like this. Industry surveys are fantastic link building magnets for B2B companies.

Pitch a news story, not a guest post

Guest posting is getting increasingly tough.

Editors are swamped by eager content providers, most of whom can produce interesting, useful and well researched blog posts.

A change of tack can improve your chances of getting high quality links from well respected sources.

Create a genuine, news story for your industry. Back up your story with new data and analysis. Create charts, graphs and infographics. Gather comments and opinions from industry leaders. Then write the story up and post on your own blog. Be thorough and self critical.

Once posted, pitch the news story to industry news outlets using your blog post as the reference and the source for them to link to.

If your story is genuinely important and newsworthy, journalists will write up their own story and link to your blog post for in depth analysis.

The story will also be picked up by other outlets, giving you a better chance of even more exposure.

My best link-building tip for 2022 is to join relevant networks. I’m a member of some groups on Facebook and LinkedIn and I must say they totally worth time spent there. Every day new members come and join the groups and it’s a fantastic way to build your own network. This type of long-term collaboration grants you constant link juice and mutual mentions of high-authority websites.

There’s lots of mistakes new B2B sites make when trying to build links. Here’s the top three things not to do:

Don’t build links for the sake of building links – don’t be tricked by a site’s high domain rating. SEO takes time. So, avoid just swapping links with sites that aren’t actively working to increase their online visibility. Instead, build links with sites that are on an upwards trajectory and invested in future growth.

Don’t write awful guest posts. Sure, sneaking a crappy guest post past an editor is a quick way to get some links to your pages. But as a rule you should never write anything that you wouldn’t be happy to show your customers. It’s better to write fewer top quality guest posts that build your brand for the long-run than lots of short low-quality ones.

Don’t assume your newly acquired links are for certain. Sometimes sites have a tendency to switch your links to no-follow (or even delete them entirely). Use a tool like Ahrefs to keep tabs on your acquired and lost links at least once per week.

Building links is not a transaction. It’s networking in the 21st century.

Companies get caught up in making a deal.

A solid relationship can lead to dozens of these ‘deals.’

I try to reach out to brands and find out what I can do to help them.

Who can I connect them with?

What type of introductions can I help make?

While doing this, you will have plenty of opportunities to make link exchanges.

Whether it’s writing a blog post, helping provide content for an article, or just linking to a great piece of content that someone in your network shares with you — all of these will work out if you remember to put the personal relationship first.

Brooks Conkle, owner

Link-building is becoming a challenging field to master. With so many people to connect with, it can be hard to find reliable partners which is why it’s extremely important these days to focus on building relationships with fellow link-builders by prioritizing quality over quantity.

We’ve all been there before— collaborating with other link-building partners and having them disappear just when we need the favor returned. By having a small circle of link-builders within your reach, you won’t have to put in more effort than you need to for building links. Not to mention, it’ll also decrease the chances of getting scammed or ghosted by fellow link-builders.

So, next time you find yourself a person you see working with in the long-term, work on maintaining that relationship and watch your links grow.

  1. Stay relevant – only reach out to domains which hosts relevant content and talk to the relevant audience
  2. Stay away from spammy sites
  3. No-follow links are also links – do not ignore them
  4. DA is just another metric. Ensure you build link from domains/pages which are performing and getting relevant traffic
  5. Co-authored articles integrated with co-hosted webinars are great ways to build links to your domains

When it comes to B2B companies, link building needs to serve two purposes: rank in search engines, and build trust among the audience. Bonus: it also helps reach a new audience (that is built by someone else).

Build links and improve authority is by writing well-researched and definitive content that provides your or your business’s view/approach to problems/trends.

Guest blogging on high-authority sites helps to build links, reach a wider audience, and also establish that even the big players value your opinion/information.

Partner with other content marketers who are building links in the B2B niche. It may sound like link exchange to begin with but it’s not. You can build links to their website from some of your guest posts and they can do the same for you. Now, imagine if you partner with 10 such content marketers how many links you will be able to build with the same effort? It’s 10 times of what you could have done building links yourself. 😀

Publish original research. Writers and editors of B2B blogs are constantly hard-pressed to find good, up-to-date data to cite in their content. Make life easier for them by publishing “data storytelling” piece that unveils new insights about your niche, illustrated with numbers.

We wrote an original study looking at Organic CTR on Google, analyzing 5 million data points that a freelance data analyst helped us compile from our own B2B SaaS platform. Three years later, this original study continues to earn us passive, high-authority backlinks.

Creating visually appealing and valuable content like infographics is a handy way to improve B2B link-building strategy. Infographics provide a great way to scale out “guest blogging” opportunities effortlessly. You can create an infographic and reach out to other relevant company’s websites to feature them.

As content will add value and give their audiences new insights, they will link back to the piece. So, it’s a win-win for both parties; they can offer their audiences valuable resources and you can get an awesome backlink.

Other than an improved backlink profile, you can also build awareness for your brand in your field — since your infographic will get attention from search engines. Inimitably, the blog will start to become a hub for related knowledge and other similar organizations with the potential to link back to you.

Link building is one important tactic to increase SEO score and improve discoverability in the digital world. With the massive content surfaces on the internet, it can be challenging to win over them when you put in a little effort. Basically, you will receive inbound links through two major ways: other blogs voluntarily mention your page, or you ask them to put your page on their sites.

The latter, however, isn’t that easy when you’re just starting out. So, the best strategy to build links is by providing impressive content instead. That way, other blogs will be excited to share your content even without you asking them to do it. You should start making compelling content that drives engagement, such as infographic and video content. This image-based content is wonderful to make people engaged with your post.

Natasha Rei, Digital Marketing Manager

Link building can be difficult for many, as it takes the right combination of skills and experience to get well desired links. When it comes to B2B, the best ways to build links are:

– Establish connections and reach out to seo specialists, content writers and other link builders. Build up your network and lay the foundation for further partnerships and collaboration. Everyone needs help and there’s no need to go at it by yourself.

– Join link building groups. An extension of the previous point, if you know someone already belonging to one ask for an invite and build your reputation with content and trading favours

– Promote your content, because if no one sees it then why bother? Sharing it on social media and including it in a newsletter is a must to get the quick surge in traffic and perhaps a link or two upfront, before you start reaching out and asking for a link.
